Keep Parliament Talking About Persecution

Open Doors’ have been encouraging people to write to their local MP to raise awareness of persecution, particularly in Algeria and Nigeria . This has been very successful so far – in the first two weeks of Parliament this year, Christian persecution was raised in two debates and multiple parliamentary questions.

In October 2011, ‘Open Doors’ were contacted by a political correspondent who wanted to report on the public briefing, Religious Freedom in Algeria. He has since put forward an e-petition asking the Government to take action on the persecution of Christians. E-petitions are a great way for the public to indicate their concerns to the UK Government. If they get at least 100,000 signatures the subject of the e-petition will be eligible for debate in the House of Commons: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/27673

EASTER EGGS

For the prizes of the Art Competition at the Christmas Fayre, Lesley bought Christmas decorations from the Real Meaningful Chocolate company. She is now ordering some of their Easter Eggs for the Holiday Club that is being run at Easter.

If anyone would like any for friends and family please can they sign up on the board by the door, or let Lesley know.

The aim is to get the order through to the company at the beginning of February toget free postage.

They are £3.99 each and contain a chocolate egg and the Easter Story in an 8 page booklet.

Read the poster on the notice board to find out more...

  THE REAL EASTER EGG

It’s an astonishing fact that over 80 million chocolate Easter eggs are sold each year in the UK.

Even more astonishing is the fact that not one of them mentions Jesus on the box.

The Real Easter Egg is the UK’s first and only Fairtrade Easter egg to explain the Christian understanding of Easter on the pack and it gives a sizeable donation from profits to charitable projects.

The Real Easter Egg in 2012 has had a make-over.

- Brighter colours

- The three crosses on the front are bigger

- The Easter story is a colourful visual story board as opposed to last year’s text only version

- If you open the lid, you will see ‘Happy Easter’

- Under the lid, and for the first time ever on an Easter Egg, there is a quote from the Bible – the resurrection text from Mark’s Gospel

- Inside the box is a copy of the Easter story in booklet form for children to keep and parents to share

END OF ORDERING: 12TH FEBRUARY 2012

Christian Aid Week
 13th to 19th May 2012

Join the thousands to collect in Christian Aid week. Let’s give the tools to help people in poverty out of poverty.

To volunteer to collect, please contact Brian

Every May, thousands of amazing volunteers go into their community to collect door to door.

In 2011, house-to-house collections raised more than two-thirds of Christian Aid Week’s fantastic

£12.5m total. This money has helped to transform lives around the world, empowering poor

communities to work their way out of poverty.

Action For Children…

Forthcoming Vacancy!

Jill needs to find a replacement for herself as Zion Church’s Action for Children representative.

See her for details of 'the not too demanding but important role' in the church. Especially important in February/March is a link with all A.F.C. collecting box holders in dealing with the annual emptying and counting. Passing on to the congregation forthcoming fundraising events and keeping them informed about what the Methodist charity is doing throughout the country is also vital to keep us all involved.
